Marshall County Economic Development Director
About the Job
Do you love small towns? Do you get energy from talking to people and finding creative ways to solve problems? Do you believe that a little push and the right resources can help a community grow?
The Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for a Community Builder, Problem-Solver, and Connector to serve as our next Marshall County Economic Development Director. Your job isn’t to sit behind a desk—it’s to be out in the communities of Marshall County, talking to local leaders, business owners, and residents to find opportunities and make things happen.
What You’ll Do:
- Build relationships with community leaders, business owners, and residents in Marshall County’s rural communities
- Identify and support economic development opportunities—small business growth, housing, infrastructure, etc.
- Assist local businesses and entrepreneurs in finding grants, resources, and opportunities
- Organize meetings and events to encourage collaboration and problem-solving across communities
- Be the go-to person for anyone who wants to make their community stronger but doesn’t know where to start
Who You Are:
- A Natural Connector – You love talking to people, asking questions, and figuring out how to bring people together
- A Self-Starter – You don’t wait for someone to tell you what to do—you find opportunities and take action
- A Problem-Solver – You look at challenges as puzzles to be solved, not roadblocks
- Community-Focused – You care about rural Iowa and want to see small towns thrive
- Persistent & Resourceful – If you don’t know the answer, you’ll find it. If there’s a problem, you’ll work to solve it.
What You DON’T Need:
- A specific degree or background in economic development
- Years of experience in government or business
- A desire to sit in an office all day
What We Offer:
- Salary: $60,000 – $66,000 + full benefits
- Flexible schedule (some nights/weekends as needed)
- The opportunity to shape the future of rural Marshall County
- A chance to work directly with local leaders, businesses, and residents to drive change
How to Apply:
If this sounds like you, we want to hear from you. Send your resume and a short letter telling us why you’re excited about this role and what you think small towns need to thrive to jhall@marshalltown.org.
