Spanish Influenza History Walk

Riverside Cemetery and the Marshalltown Public Library are organizing a walking tour of a notable place in Marshalltown— a tour of Riverside Cemetery (611 N. Center Street). It will take place on Saturday, October 6th at 10:00 a.m. We will meet at the cemetery office.

This tour will be different from other tours we’ve had in the past as it will be following a theme. This fall is the 100th anniversary of the world-wide Spanish Influenza pandemic that killed millions of people. Have you ever wondered how Marshalltown was affected? Find out when we take an informal walking tour and discuss the fascinating history of the Spanish Flu and some of the approximately 90 burials at Riverside resulting from it.

The walking tours will be at a leisurely pace and will last about an hour and a half. Continued exploration after the library’s walking tour ends is encouraged! This event is free and open to the public, aged 18 and older.

Contact the library’s Information Desk with any questions at 641-754-5738 ext. 4.
