Spanish Flu Program
Dorie Tammen, general manager of Riverside Cemetery, will present a program about the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic and how it affected those in Marshalltown on Saturday, December 1 at 10:00 a.m. Because our walking tour of the cemetery got rained out and then the weather got very cold very quickly, we decided to do an indoor presentation at the library in our community meeting rooms.
This fall is the 100th anniversary of the world-wide Spanish Influenza pandemic that killed millions of people. Have you ever wondered how Marshalltown was affected? Find out during this presentation where we will discuss the fascinating history of the Spanish Flu and some of the approximately 90 burials at Riverside resulting from it.
This event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Marshalltown Public Library.
