Our Neighbors the Amish

Don and Dianne Kramer will present an informational program at the Marshalltown Public Library on Saturday, September 22 at 2:00 p.m. called Our Neighbors, the Amish. Come learn about the beliefs and lifestyle of a community of people whose religious practices are often mystifying and whose way of life is much different than our own.

The presentation will include photos and talk about different elements of the Amish lifestyle. The talk will include information about key Amish beliefs, the ordnung, rumspringa, marriage, homes, school, social gatherings, church, health and healing, and more! The presentation lasts about two hours.

Don and Dianne Kramer live in Dyersville, IA and are surrounded by three Amish communities. It has been through their interactions with the Amish – plus through extensive research – that they have been able to gather, organize, and present their “findings” about these humble, kind, intriguing people. They are retired teachers who enjoy sharing their interest in the Amish culture with audiences in libraries throughout Iowa.
