History on Third Thursday: Beginning Genealogy

Join us for a discussion of Genealogy Basics. This presentation will provide an overview while giving guidance in researching your genealogy project. We’ll look at the essential records used for research, talk about common problems and review paper versus computer organizational methods. While this presentation might be geared towards those beginning their genealogy research, some of you more experienced folks may find some pointers to walk away with. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Presenter Kevin Spire is a native of Iowa, with ancestry rooted in central Iowa. His passion for genealogy began as a young boy with interest in photography and old family pictures. The next step was to understand how he was connected to the people in these old photos. Kevin is a member of the Iowa Genealogical Society and has served in roles as 1st Vice President, President and supported a number of committees. Kevin has been researching his own ancestry for 25+ years. He has also been helping others with their research while also teaching classes for 5 years.
