Bearing Witness: Families on the Border
Listen to the firsthand experiences of three Iowa women who recently traveled to the U.S./Mexico border, on separate service trips with different missions, to provide support and extend compassion to immigrant families. Panelists will include Ann Naffier, immigration attorney with Iowa Justice for Our Neighbors, Jody Mashek, Legal Services Director with American Friends in Service Committee, and Sister Christine Feagan of St. Mary’s Hispanic Ministry.
Ann spent a week volunteering with Las Americas Immigration Advocacy Project in El Paso, TX, where she provided legal screenings and representation to immigrants. Jody spent time on both sides of the border, helping families understand the asylum process, either as they waited to pass through the port of entry, or were on the U.S. side. Sister Chris joined 12 other sisters on a service trip to Casa Nazareth, helping families released by ICE, awaiting the opportunity to connect with family members in the U.S.
